How to reduce email stress

July 10, 2010 01:36 pm Comments

Are you doing the summer holiday countdown? If so, I’ll bet you’re looking forward to pretending your email inbox doesn’t even exist.

Holidays mean freedom from obsessively checking your inbox. You’ve probably caught yourself reading emails while you drive, during meals, or even in the middle of spending time with your family.

Email is not your enemy, so stop trying to battle it.

You can take control of your inbox, reduce stress, and boost your productivity by trying these email strategies:

  • Practice the art of “Four Sentences”. Treat all email responses like an SMS text message, using a maximum of four sentences. This will reduce the time strain for both you and your recipient.
  • Use “The Pomodoro Technique”, a time management strategy based on 25 minute spurts of focused productivity. Try limiting yourself to just two email Pomodoros per day: one in the morning, one in the afternoon.
  • Send email newsletters and promotions to streamline your sales and marketing process. Email marketing solutions help you to connect and follow up with people who are truly interested in your product or service.
  • Enable “auto reply” and let your contacts know when you’re unavailable, when you’ll return, and where to direct their emergencies.
